Why don't you ship right away?
It takes about a day to prepare a Heat Guardian pair. We do configuration and burn-in after ordering for two reasons.
a) The battery drains very slightly when the unit is turned off. We prefer not to ship units with dead batteries since their startup can be strange when first plugged in.
b) What you receive will contain the latest production upgrades.
Where and how are Heat Guardians made?
Electrical components are ordered from a local US distributor but the components, of course, come from all over the world. The radio modules are made in the UK. The CPU modules are from a US company. Blank circuit boards are produced in China and shipped to Oregon where our PCB partner combines them with the components. The antennas are commercial-grade antennas from domestic companies.
The enclosures are 3d printed locally. This makes their esthetics imperfect compared to a more typical molded enclosure but far more flexibly designed - so they're ugly but very functional. They are made out of PETG : good at handling high temperatures and it's a food-safe plastic in case you have mouthy pets.
